Top 5 dive sites near Patras

By Vitalie Barbacari · Updated May 2026

Dive boat at sunset

The Gulf of Patras and the surrounding Ionian coast hide some of Greece's most underrated diving. Here are the five sites we keep coming back to — and why they're worth a tank or two on your next trip.

1. Drepano Reef · 8-18m · all levels

A gentle sloping reef, 20 minutes by boat from our base. Visibility is consistently 15-25m. You'll see octopus on most dives, plus moray eels, sea breams, and the occasional barracuda hunting near the surface. It's our go-to first dive for Open Water students and rusty divers — calm, easy, and never disappointing.

What to look for

2. Cape Drepano Cavern · 15-25m · AOW+

One of the most photogenic sites in the area. A wide cavern entrance at 16m opens into a chamber where shafts of sunlight slice the water. Not a true cave dive — you can always see the way out — but the play of light is unforgettable. We dive it on calm days with good surface conditions.

3. The Mystic Wall · 12-35m · AOW recommended

A vertical wall covered in yellow cluster anemones and the occasional red coral fan. We typically run this as a multi-level dive: drop to 30m, work along the wall, come up over a series of ledges. Currents can pick up here, so we plan it with the tides.

4. The Italian Wreck · 22-32m · AOW+

A small WW2 patrol boat, about 30m long, sitting upright on a sandy bottom. The hull is mostly intact, the wheelhouse is gone. Conger eels live in the bow, and a school of bream patrols the stern. Great penetration training for advanced divers — we run it as a guided wreck speciality.

5. Trizonia Pinnacle · 5-40m · all levels (top section)

About 90 minutes east, off the small island of Trizonia. A massive underwater pinnacle that rises from 40m almost to the surface. The shallow section makes a great long, relaxed dive; the deep section is for trained divers only. Big schools of fish congregate around the pinnacle in summer.

A note on conditions

The Gulf is sheltered, which means most days are dive-able. Visibility ranges from 10m in spring to 30m+ in late summer. Water temperatures: 16°C in winter (drysuit), 18-22°C in spring, 24-26°C July-September, 20-22°C in October.
